Workshops for Writers — At All Levels!

Writing Class

The Newburyport Literary Association will co-sponsor a writing class for those who have thought about writing but haven’t gotten started for whatever reason.

  • It will be taught by Vicki Hendrickson, in her home.
  • The class will run from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.,
for eight weeks from OCT 15–DEC 3, 2024.
  • We will use various texts, complete exercises, and discuss the writing experience.
  • I will invite various authors to join us from time to time.

There is no quick and easy way to learn to write well. Like everything, it requires practice. And there is no ONE TRUTH. Except, possibly this, writing teaches you—about yourself, others, and imagination. An excellent return on investment!

Eight weekly Tuesdays
from OCT 15–DEC 3, 2024,
2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Cost: $300*. Class limit: 8.

How to Get an Agent for Your Novel or Memoir

Instructor: Nancy Crochiere (Bio)
Date and Time:
Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024 | 6:00-7:30 pm
Location: Online – Zoom
(Link will be sent to students before day of event)
Cost: $75.

Course Description: If your goal is a book deal with a traditional publisher, you’ll first need a literary agent. In this session, we’ll cover the steps to finding an agent, including identifying competitive books; writing a killer query letter; pinpointing which agents to query; and ten things you should never do when querying an agent.

Questions? Please contact M.G. Barlow

Nancy Crochiere’s debut novel, Graceland (Avon/HarperCollins, 2023) was an Amazon Kindle bestseller and named a top summer read by Parade, Woman’s World, and Deep South Magazines. Prior to writing fiction, Nancy was a family-humor columnist for two newspapers and collected her essays into the book The Mother Load. With her children now grown, Nancy lives north of Boston with her husband and occasionally acts as an extra in TV shows and movies.

2024 Honorees

2024 Honorees

The Newburyport Literary Festival celebrates its 19th year in 2024. To get the celebration started, we are honoring three of our own.

Local historians Bethany Groff Dorau, Dyke Hendrickson, and Ghlee E. Woodworth will be in conversation, moderated by former Newburyport Daily News editor, Richard K. Lodge. It will be an evening celebrating our wonderful community, including past and present perspectives, historical milestones, anecdotes, musings, and plenty of discussion.

Come to the Firehouse, be there and in your seat by six o’clock on April 26th, 2024!
